Families coping with significant Mental Health issues become on edge, and ours was no different. It’s as if we knew that a fire was going to start somewhere, but no one knew when or where, or just how damaging it would be. Alison became a complex bundle of low self-esteem and religious guilt and in July 1987 Alison was seen by a Doctor and was sectioned under the Mental Health act. She was sectioned twice in 1987 and was discharged in January 1988 as an out-patient of what was then called the Garlands Hospital, now the Carleton Clinic in Carlisle. Alison’s Mental Health problems were significant and she continued to need medication and the support of caring and qualified Mental Health professionals.
